“It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife.”
Author: Jane Austen
Jane Austin hated romance tropes. She decided to write a book about two people who didn’t fall in love at first sight. Instead, she would make them hate each other when they first met so that they would have to get to know each other before they fell in love.
Even if you’ve never read this book, you have seen the ripoffs of this book in every romcom ever.
Don’t believe me? well just tell me if this sounds familiar:
Elizabeth Bennett is a woman who follows the beat of her own drum, who wasn’t looking for love. Darcy was a man who thought he had it all but when a chance meeting throws Elizabeth and Darcy together, they are about to discover that love comes from unexpected places.
Think you’ve seen that movie? Of course, you have!
There’s a reason that this novel is such a classic. It is well worth the read.
