Spoiler-Free Review: Geekerella

“I suck at being social. I think one thing and my mouth says something completely different, like I’m possessed. By a whole lot of stupid.”

OMG did you hear they are remaking Starfield?! And get this there’s going to be a cosplay contest at ExcelsiCon this year! You can bet every blogger and Youtuber is going to be talking about this!

Elle Wittimer has been a Starfield fan from her whole life. Her dad helped build the ExcelsiCon, and now her step-mother won’t let her go. Looks like Elle is going to be stuck working in the Magic Pumpkin Food Truck indefinitely. Life is no fairy tale.

I had mixed feeling about this book. I like the element of Elle’s step-sisters suddenly acting like life long fans on their Youtube channel. It always seams like there are these attention seeking “fake fans” when a piece of geek culture goes mainstream. You know what I mean the people who list the original X-Men and throw Emma Frost in there. You just know despite what they say about being old-school fans they haven’t read the comics.

I don’t know if the nerdy references are cutie or insufferable. I do feel that modern day re-tellings of Cinderella are overdone. But that’s just me.

I can’t say I’d recommend this to anyone in particular, the book is basically what you would expect. Cinderella with nerds. There’s really nothing I can add to that description.
