Spoiler-Free Review: The Well of Ascension (Mistborn #2)

“I kind of lost track of time…”
“For two hours?”
Elend nodded sheepishly. “There were books involved.”

Author: Brandon Sanderson

It’s been a year since the dark lord was killed and a good man put on the throne. . . now what? Sure the final empire was corrupt but it kept the people fed. Did any of you people think about what you would do with the world once you freed it?

Unlike so many other authors Brandon Sanderson dares to show us the mess of re-building a society after a civil war.

Tolkien can say that Aragorn became king and reigned for a hundred years. . . But what was Aragorn’s tax policy?

George R. R. Martin

Elend, Vin and the whole crew find themselves in the new noble classes. The common people look to them for guidance.Meanwhile the old nobility rally their forces in an attempt to return to the old status quo.

While Elend struggles to figure out how to be a king, Vin is haunted by the Lord Ruler’s cryptic last words about how he was saving the world. . . was? present tense? and what about those stories of the mist appearing in the day? What exactly happened a thousand years ago at the Well of Ascension?

I loved this book. The reveal at the end was great. Perfectly foreshadowed and yet unexpected. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series!
