Mary Hayes hates her life in the orphanage. When she gets caught trying to runaway, She thinks she’s in for a world of trouble. Instead, the mysterious Madame Z chooses to adopt her.
Mary loves her new life with Madame Z, but as she explores the house she begins to question just who or what Madame Z really is.
This is a very fun middle grade magical mystery story. Mary is a fun, relatable protagonist. Madame Z is the right combination of warm and creepy, that makes the story work.
I was kicking myself for not catching onto the supernatural twist in this story! I am a folklore nerd how did I not see this coming? This is a very good read for middle school readers looking for a spooky book this October.

I tried to review “The Shack.” It turned into a rant about why Christian novels tend to suck. Good Christian fiction is hard to find, but I’m open to suggestions.
