Spoiler Free Review: A Series of Unfortunate Events: The Bad Beginning

“Sometimes, just saying that you hate something, and having someone agree with you, can make you feel better about a terrible situation.”

The Baudelaire children have just been orphaned. If that’s not bad enough, they are sent to go live with a relative they have never met, Count Olaf. The Count is cruel to the children and it’s not long before Violet, Klaus, and Sunny, suspect that Olaf is trying to scam them out of the Baudelaire family fortune. Can the siblings come together and prove Olaf is up to no good?

This is one of my go-to recommended series for kids. It’s also one of those rare book series where the tone still works for adults. The humor is dark, without being too dark.
