This was my first Lucy Stone mystery, and I think it might be my only Lucy Stone mystery. The mystery plot was not very good.
I get that Lucy’s son, daughter-in-law and grandson are the kooky relatives that come for the holidays that are in almost every holiday story, but I just hated them. and so does Lucy, although she won’t admit it. Lucy is more judgmental of her daughter-in-law than the killer. I am not joking. Lucy’s daughter-in-law is treated with more contempt than the person who took the life of another human being!
That ending. oh boy that ending! How do I describe my issues with the ending of this story without getting into spoilers? Suffice to say, this is one of those mysteries that relies on multiple people being incredibly stupid for a few seconds, because if just one of them showed a speck of common sense this either could have been avoided, or they would have explained themselves and spared us Lucy’s investigation.
According to the Goodreads reviews I’m in the minority not liking this book, but I’m okay with that. I like cozy murder mysteries as much as the next person, but this one left a bad taste in my mouth.
