Spoiler-Free Review: The Magic Treehouse # 10: Ghost Town at Sundown

“Remember the red river valley.”

Author: Mary Pope Osborne

Jack and Annie find themselves whisked off to the wild west. Horse thieves, cowboys with dreams of publication, more lost animals that Annie can befriend, and a rattlesnake that give me True Grit flashbacks. Will everyone keep their limbs?

I liked this story. I also liked the nod to the folksong: The Red River Valley. You may think don’t think you know it, but you do. That’s the wistful harmonica song that is in every western film.

Here’s a link: Red River Valley Be warned though: it’s an ear-worm.
